Ghostriders win their Home Opener

The Ghostriders  played Creston in their first home game of the season on Friday and earned a 4-2 win.

In the first Period

Creston’s Keethan Isbister 05 (recruited from the Jr B Prairie Junior Hockey League)  scored the first goal on the power play then Fernie rookie Owen MacLeod tied the game a couple of minutes later.

Hayden Evans had a goal and an assist

In the second period Fernie’s Hayden Evans (acquired from Sicamous) scored on the PP then Ethan Buhler got another PP goal to make it 3-1. Then near the end of the period Creston’s Liam Monro (1G1A) made it a 3-2 game.

In the 3rd period Rider Captain Ben Skarsen scored the only goal, giving the Riders a 4-2win.

Ethan Buhler

Notes
Ethan Buhler’s goal was the game winner, Coden Fournier and Garrett Buchanan each had two assists and Ben Skarsen had a goal and two assists.

D man Garrett Buchanan left the game early with what AC Dante Raposo called a minor injury.

Rookie Kade Lewis stopped 33 of 35 shots for the win and Creston’s William Steingart stopped 31 of 35.

Fernie’s Captain is #21 Ben Skarsen and the Assistant Captains are #16 Coden Fournier, #13 Liam Breakenridge and #22 Walker Overwater…all KIJHL veterans

Fernie went 2-6 and Creston 1-2 on the power play

Kade Lewis got his first W in net

The old guy eye test… The Riders had a more grade A chances then Creston, and probably should have had a couple more goals…not much hitting… lots of missed passes, nets and defensive miscues…by both teams…typical for the start of the season…Kade Lewis didn’t have to be outstanding but did have to make some big saves, a good first Jr game for the just turned 18 yr old700 fans at the game…teams shouldn’t take Creston lightly, all things considered, they did a decent job of recruiting… and still have Liam Monro who scored the 4-3 GW in Invermere on Saturday

Round’ The League
The Riders play in Kamloops next Friday and in Chase on Saturday. Oddly enough Chase was in Kamloops last Friday and lost 7-3 then Kamloops went to Chase on Saturday and won 11-5…the Storm outshot the Heat 108-47 in those games

Golden won both their games, 5-2 in Columbia Valley and 3-2 in a shootout vs Revelstoke who went 2-6 on the PP and outshot the Rockets 47-31…but still lost, Golden is here in Fernie on Sunday Oct 12 at 4:00 NOTICE THE TIME

Meanwhile Kimberley went to Nelson and blasted them 7-0 Jack Fairhead had the shutout in that penalty filled game that saw the Nitros go 5-12 on the PP, the shots were 45-15… on Saturday Kimberley was in Beaver Valley where they won 4-3 when Nathan Laforge scored in the last five minutes, Kimberley went 1-10 and BV 1-9 on the PP.

Grand Forks who will play in Fernie Friday October 10 won their game vs Castlegar 7-2 and went 4-10 on the PP

Sicamous who will be in Fernie on Friday October 3rd, lost 3-2 in OT to Revelstoke on Friday and 5-3 to Princeton Saturday

And finally, with all the different NCAA rules and leagues popping up (especially in Alberta)  is there enough talent to go around? The BCHL new roster rules appear to say no, their teams can now carry 8 20’s plus a 20 goalie and they only have to have 10 Canadians this year… so there’s that.
