Notes From Under the Bleachers… where they keep the suds

In game one Kyler Watson scored what turned out to be the game winning goal in the second period, it was his third goal and second GWG…The Riders were easily the best team in game one but the Rockies played better in game two and won,  however,  it came down to late in the  third period when CVR’s Bryan Kim scored on a clear cut breakaway to give the Rockies a 2-1 lead…it was the turning point of the game, they scored a few minutes later, then into the empty net…Coden Fournier  scored the lone goal on Saturday, it was his 4th goal and 6th point, Kaden Slobodian also has 6 points… Congrats to Cole Fisher  who was named as one of the KIJHL’s Three Stars of the Week last week…There were 825 at the game Friday and 713 on Saturday, the Ghostriders organization thanks the fans for their support …On Friday the Rockies Kaelan Shelton crosschecked an unsuspecting Taylor Haggerty hard in the head right after a third period face-off… if he wasn’t wearing a screen, it would have been an actual  face-off… Shelton got three games for his efforts…Nick Kunyk got the win in net Friday making several great saves… The Riders Levi Hall lost on Saturday… but the skaters kinda hung him out to dry a couple of times … HC & GM Brad Tobin was not re-signed in Creston, he joins Brad Fox (Chase) and Dale Hladun (100 Mile) as coaches on the outs… In Spokane they replaced Darin Schumacher with  Mike Bay who coached Spokane in a previous life, one of Bay’s assistant Coaches will be former Ghostriders standout goalie Jason Greenwell who played a couple of season’s here under HC & GM Will Verner…BC Hockey brought back  the Mowat Cup read that here …whenFernie was in the old RMJHL  the RMJHL winner played the BCHL winner for the Mowat Cup and a chance to play in the Centennial Cup… the last time an RMJHL team played for the Mowat was in 1999 when Kimberley lost 3-1 to Vernon, who went on to win the Centennial  Cup… can you guess which Head Coach and General Manager (that you see at every Rider game) was on that team…For the record, Fernie’s HC & GM that year… Fred Harbinson, currently with Pentiction … also for the record Fred had visions of a Superleague dancing in his head way back then…Yorkton of the SJHL was going bankrupt and asked the public to help them keep the team, they sold 1000 seasons tickets,  it worked
