Ghostriders This Week Jan 21/24

The Ghostriders played their last five games on the road. They won 5-3 in Creston, 4-2 in Columbia Valley and 6-2 in Castlegar. This week they lost in 3-2 in OT in Sicamous then finished up with a 3-2 OT win in Revelstoke.

Captain Taylor Haggerty after the Sicamous and Revelstoke games.

I thought 3/4 points on that road trip was a very good weekend for us. I thought we only played two periods of good hockey the whole weekend and we managed to come away with 3 points. That shows lots about our group. Those are two very good teams who we played and I think we are happy with 3/4 points and we didn’t even play our best hockey.

Notes

Taylor Haggerty’s second goal was the OT winner in Revelstoke, it was his his 7th GWG… Haggerty was also named as one of the KIJHL’s 3 Stars of the Week and is #3 in KIJHL scoring…The league has officially recognized the playoff teams and Fernie is in along with the Rockies and NitrosGolden, according to the KIJHL  math students, could catch Creston but any Sesame Street dropout knows that won’t happen…Golden also parted ways with HC Chuck Wight (but not before trading Levi Hall to Fernie)and 100 Mile did the same to 30 year coach Dale Hladun who coached several teams, won the KI, Cyclone and Keystone cups in 2016 and coached Fernie in 2013-14 … Cole Fournier who is now in his 3rd season played his 100th regular season game in Sicamous…star D-man Eric Martin had a goal and an assist but left the Revelstoke game in the third after a cheap shot knee and did not return…there was no call…surprise surprise… Ben Skarsen had 2 assists in Revy, his 24th and 25th point…the Riders are now in first place, in November it looked like second was within their grasp but they have been really hot…and are 7-0-2-1 in their last 10 games, 17 points…mostly on the road…clearly our broadcast team (Dan,Scotty and Ted) and the guy in Castlegar are some of the best in the league… No attendance was announced in Revelstoke, it happens lots there and it’s not because they have no fans, they do well…In Sicamous Owen Dewitt (07) and Haden Evans (06) scored and are top scorers with the Eagles, if you are listening, you will play somewhere for free next season…and finallyfive AJHL teams announced that they will play in the BCHL next season and the AJHL suspended them immediately. We don’t know what this will mean for the KIJHL and their hopes for being designated as tier 1 Junior A…but it’s all related and this just adds to the controversy.
