Dewitt, Percival & Kunyk named KIJHL October 3 Stars

 

Owen Dewitt (Sicamous Eagles), Kaleb Percival (Beaver Valley Nitehawks) and Nick Kunyk (Fernie Ghostriders) have been selected as the Hudl Instat Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Month for October.

Dewitt – Top Forward – The local product had two goals and 12 assists for 14 points in seven games to help the Eagles win six of their seven games. Dewitt was only held pointless in one game, their loss to Kamloops. Dewitt began the month with a two assist effort against Chase on Oct.6, then the next game against Osoyoos, he had a five assist performance. His next big performance came against 100 Mile House on Oct. 20 when he scored a goal, an insurance marker, and had two assists for three points.

Percival – Top Defenceman –The Nelson native had three goals and 10 assists in nine games to help the Nitehawks win eight of their 10 games. Percival had four multi-game performances, starting with a goal and an assist in a 7-6 overtime win over Nelson. On Oct. 10, Percival collected three assists against the Castlegar Rebels, then had a goal and an assist against Kelowna on Oct. 13. His final multi-point performance came against Spokane on Oct. 20 as he registered three assists.

Kunyk – Top Goalie – The Spruce Grove, Alberta product won five of the six games he started in for the Ghostriders and stopped 138 of 147 shots for a 1.66 goals against average and a .939 save percentage. He helped the Ghostriders win seven of their 10 games beginning with stopping 18 of 19 against the Golden Rockets. On Oct. 21 against 100 Mile House Wranglers, Kunyk stopped 28 of 30 shots, then against Beaver Valley on Oct. 28, he stopped 35 of 36 shots.
