The Ghostriders earned 4 of 6 points on the road

Rider News, Three road games in a row was a hard way to start the regular season.

Chad Scharff  “That was a great test for us in the first weekend of the inaugural BCHC season. The trip had a little bit of everything… getting use to new travel schedules (bus driver Ryder was awesome), finding lines and chemistry between players, regulation win, a game where we were outplayed, and a bounce back 3rd game in 3 nights win in a shootout. There are a lot of things we can take away from this weekend. Highs, lows and everything in between but I’m happy with the start getting 4/6 points is huge. Time to get some rest this week and get back to work to prepare for an exciting weekend at home”.

Rider News Both goalies looked like they were in mid-season form

Carter Singleton

Scharff “We got great goaltending from both Leo and Svenny! and some unreal performances from a lot of guys but Carter Singleton was our best forward and Liam Breakenridge was a leader through and through. Sawyer Samycia and Stephen Jones were our work horses! Happy with the entire group, lots to look forward to”.

Rider News, You managed to get everyone in.

Scharff “Gavin Harty and Rayne Jones” both played in their first Junior games and were both very good”

Fernie 3 @ Nelson 2 S/O

On Sunday afternoon in Nelson the Ghostriders picked up a 3-2 shootout win and earned 4 of a possible 6 points in three road games in a row to start the regular season.

Winning the third game is a testament to their fitness and a good omen for the players and their coaches.

Down 1-0 in the second period, Sawyer Samycia (Roberts-Bates) tied the game, then in the third period Carter Singleton scored his second goal of the young season from Samycia to tie the game at 2-2, giving the Ghostriders at least a point and a chance at two.

No scoring in the overtime but in the shootout Boston Logan scored the game winning goal.

Leo den Besten was in net and stopped all 5 Leaf shooters for his second win on the year.

Fernie 2 @ Beaver Valley 4

On Saturday in Beaver Valley the Hawks power play scored two goals in the second period and an empty netter with just 3 seconds left in the third for a 4-2 win.

The shots were close at 33-30 for the Hawks but it seemed from the poor video that BV had the edge in play in the last two periods and Kael Svenson (who was the third star) had to make several big saves to keep them in the game. Kayd Mercier made several stops in the Hawk net especially late after the GR scored in the last two minutes to make it 3-2. The Riders also missed on a couple of breakaways that could have earned them at least a point.

The goal scorer’s

It was BV’s home opener, attendance 331

Alex Halat left the game in the 2nd period with an injury and did not play in Nelson on Sunday.

FYI Kael Svenson played a game with the Cranbrook Bucks last week where he stopped 22 of 23 shots. The Bucks were short a goalie and asked GM Scharff if he could him help out.

Fernie 4 @ Grand Forks 0

Friday night in Grand Forks the Ghostriders had the edge in play all night, a 33-18 shot advantage and won the game 4-0.

Leo den Besten was in net for his first shoutout of the season. Leo was called on to make a few big saves but the Bruins couldn’t beat him.

The Riders special teams were the difference, they were 2-8 on the power play, scored a shorthanded goal and killed all 6 of the Bruin PP’s.

It was a team effort with 9 different players getting a point.
It was also the Bruins Home Opener, with 391 in attendance.
The GF video was very clear and it was easy to see the player numbers and the announcers knew the names.

*Garrett Buchanan scored the Ghostriders first ever BCHC goal shorthanded… that will be a trivia question in a few years.

Koa Percival had the Gordie… a goal an assist and a fight with Keegan Bailey
