The Riders only play one game this week and it’s against the Columbia Valley Rockies.
Going into last weekend the third place Rockies were just 3 points ahead of the fourth place Golden Rockets in the standings and had a chance to solidify their lead but lost both of their games against Kimberley and Nelson.
The Golden Rockets also lost their games last week against Nelson and Fernie, so that means that the second place Ghostriders still don’t know who they will play in the first round of the playoffs that are expected to start on Tuesday February 26th.
After Saturday’s game the Rockies will have 4 games left and Golden will have 2 games left.
Dylan Defosse with 11 points in January was named as the Boston Pizza Player of the Month.
Keelan Saworski scored both goals in the Beaver Valley game was named as the Tim Horton’sPlayer of the Week.
David Lenzin who just battled back from a month long injury was the McDonald’s Practice Player of the Week.
In Golden last Saturday the Riders won 6-3.
Nikolas Sombrowski’s second period goal turned out to be the game winner but Rocket forward Briar Whyte made it close on the PP and the second period ended 4-3 .
In the third Kyle Ford scored his second of the night then Sebastian Iannuzzi scored another to end it 6-3.
Gavin Lawrie scored in the first and Brendan Nemes finished with a goal and an assist.
Justin Faiella stopped 40 of 43 shots in net and was the Riders game star.
