Rider News March 2/25

Taylor Haggerty with the $1000 check donated to the U 13 Elk Valley Raiders Hockey team

The Ghostriders lost game two (3-2) after the Rockies scored at the end of the third period on the power play. The powerplay will be a recurring theme here. According to the game sheet, there was one second left on the clock when the goal was scored.

Okay, so here’s what we know from Scotty McKee’s video replays.

First of all the goal lights are not hooked up to the clock like they are in most arenas, the red light will come on even after time has run out, so the light coming on doesn’t mean anything. But there is a green light that comes on when time has run out. The video from the opposite side of the ice shows the green light coming on just after the puck went in. So assuming that the green light comes on instantly when time has run out, it was a good goal. It appears the refs got it right.

The Riders are down 2-0 in their series with the Rockies, this is all you need to know…

On Friday the Rockies won 5-3, they scored 3 goals on 4 powerplay chances and Fernie scored 1 on 6 chances. The Riders had some 5 on 3 time as well.

On Saturday the Rockies won 3-2 and scored 2 goals on 3 power play chances and they scored a shorthanded goal. The Ghostriders scored 1 on 4 PP chances.

Notes

The Ghostrider Board thanks the 870 and 906 fans who turned out for the two home games. Pretty good crowds considering it was Grizz Days and there was an almost  unlimited amount of liver soaking venues available to the revellers.

Taylor Haggerty has 3 goals in the two games. The other Rider scorers were, Coden Fournier and Braeden Jack. Eric Martin and Ben Skarsen each have 2 assists, Stephen Jones and Riley Enns 1A each.  Nick Kunyk was in net for game 1 and Cooper Anderson for game 2.

The Rockies Carter Velker scored the game winning goal in both games. Hunter Arntsen has played both games for the Rockies in net. He was an apparently savvy deadline acquisition from Osoyoos.

The series resumes in Invermere on Monday and Tuesday. You can watch on Flo Hockey or at the Fernie Legion in the bar.
