The Ghostriders picked up 3 of a possible 4 points on the weekend. They won 4-3 in Sicamous then lost 4-3 in a shootout to the reigning KIJHL and Mowat Cup Champion Revelstoke Grizzlies.
Meanwhile… the Rockies kept pace with 5-3 and 4-3 SO wins against Creston and in Golden, and Kimberley lost 5-2 in Grand Forks but won 4-2 in Spokane. For the record the Nitro’s lost 6-3 and 3-2 OT in Sicamous and Revelstoke last weekend…so there’s that. Anyway, the Riders are tied for 2nd with the CVR.
In Sicamous the Riders faced newly acquired and undefeated 6-0 former Whitecourt Wolverine goalie Kael Sevenson (06) He was also one of the KI 3 Stars last week.
The Ghostriders countered with their newly acquired goalie from Prince Albert, Cooper Anderson (07).
Both Sevenson and Cooper proved to be the real deal and made some big saves but it was Sevenson (2nd Star) who kept the Eagles in the game as the Riders had a big edge in shots 44-23 and in 10 bell scoring chances.

The Riders had goals from 1st star Eric Martin PP from Haggerty-Fournier, Jack Lambert (Enns-Hale) Malachai North Peigan (Martin-Skarsen) and with just 40 seconds left in the 3rd Coden Fournier (Martin- Haggerty) scored on the power play for the win.
In Revelstoke the Riders started Nick Kunyk in net while the Grizz countered with another Rider who was in Kimberley last season, Ryder Ponto, and they were tested, the shots were 53-50 RG and only 1 goal was scored in the shootout.
The Riders scored all their goals in the 1st period, Ben Skarsen (Fournier-Haggerty) Braeden Jack (North Peigan- Puk) and Lucas Desjarlais (Fellows- Johnson).
Revy peppered Kunyk with 20 shots in the 3rd and scored two goals to get the game to OT and then a shootout.
Both teams went 0-3 on the power play and Lucas Desjarlais and Ethan Buhler entertained the 637 faithful with a spirited fight and the always amusing crowd taunting. It was a good display from two top teams.

Notes
Revelstoke hosted and housed Fernie’s Scotty McKee on Saturday, he was there to help them setup their cameras and replay system. It didn’t take long before they had replays almost as good as here in Fernie… but Fernie has more cameras. Most teams do not have setups like Fernie and now Revelstoke have, but they should…

Gaege Johnson played his 100th KIJHL regular season game in Sicamous… he joins Haggerty and Desjarlais with 100 RS games this season… the next player will be #…what we used to shoot gophers with.
When the Riders beat Golden last weekend Taylor Haggerty, Coden Fournier and Eric Martin had 7, 8 and 10 game point streaks ended…with 11,13 and 13 pt. totals… all three players figured in the scoring this week.
On Saturday Dec 14th Castlegar is in town for the annual Teddy Bear Toss game. The team is asking you to put your bears in a plastic bag to keep them clean. Also, if you don’t have a Bear you could throw the more practical gloves, toques scarves etc… in baggies as well please…just don’t tell Greta about this, we don’t want her flying here on a jumbo jet to picket us.
And finally.. and not a moment too soon, Nelson joined Quesnel, Kelowna and Kamloops last week in parting with (firing) their Head Coach, Briar McNaney. AC Gianni Mangone is the new bench boss in Nelson, he is our own Rose Mangone’s cousin.
The Ghostriders play the Rockies in a battle for second place this Tuesday Dec 10th in Fernie.
See you at the rink
