Gill named Captain for 2020-21 Season

The Fernie Ghostriders have announced their Captain for the 2020-2021 season. 20 year old Defenceman Sawan Gill will wear the ‘C’ for the club once the puck drops for his 3rd and final season with the team. In 94 games, Gill has scored 4 goals and added 49 assists and added 48 PIM for the Ghostriders.

Head Coach/GM Jeff Wagner says the team is excited to announce their new captain. “Savy is a player that we have relied on heavily in his two seasons with the team. He plays in all situations and plays important minutes against top players on opposing teams. Beyond the game of hockey, Sav is a solid person. He’s a mature, smart young man who carries himself with integrity and has a competitive nature to him that is influential on his teammates. He cares a great deal for his teammates and the success of the team, consistently bringing a positive message to the group. Our coaching staff is excited to have him as our captain and look forward to building another successful season with him leading the way.”

Gill had this to say about being named Captain. “I’m honoured and humbled to be selected as captain for the upcoming season. We as a team have the goal of winning a championship and I believe we have a good group of guys to achieve that.”

Following his junior hockey career, Gill will be pursuing a Degree in Health Sciences with the hopes of continuing his hockey career at the collegiate level. Assistant captains for the team will be announced closer to the beginning of the season, planned to start on Oct 2nd, 2020.
