The Fernie Ghostriders played two games this weekend, they won 3-2 in Creston and 2-1 at home against Merritt.

With the wins the Riders now have a 10-9-2-1 record and 23 points. Their road record is a very good 7-4-1-1, at home they are 3-5-1 but they have lots of home games ahead in December and January to fix that.
The schedule maker had the Riders play more games than any other team, so now they are off until Tuesday December 2nd when Golden shows up here in Fernie.
Notes from the Weekend Games.

The Ghostriders played their best defensive game so far this season against Merritt where 950 screaming fans watched as Leo den Besten stopped 30 of 31 Centennial shots for the win … and he didn’t have to steal the game, he just had to be solid, make a few big saves plus the ones he should make…against a team that won 6-5 in a shootout the night before in Kimberley.
Kael Svenson was in net in Creston where he stopped 26 of 28 shots, and much like den Besten, he had to make a few big time saves but a lot routine ones… It took a while but it looks like the Riders have a pretty good goaltending tandem and the competition in net can only mean good things for the team down the stretch.

Boston Logan scored two nice “Goal Scorers” goals in Creston and was named as a game star. Sawyer Samycia scored his first goal in Creston after Jaden Piper made a nice diving play to poke the puck to him… and it was the game winning goal.
The aforementioned Jaden Piper scored the first goal against Merritt then with just 11 seconds left in the second Ben Skarsen from Fournier and Jones scored the game winning goal.
The Riders were lucky Skarsen was available after the Creston game. In the last few seconds of the third he beat out an icing to kill the clock… but it was close, and the Creston D man who was trying to catch up helped him into the boards at full speed resulting in a scuffle between several players. Creston’s Carter Thiessen and Logan Findlay each got 2 game suspensions but the Creston D-man who started it all… got nothing. I hate the horse race on the icings.
After all the players separated, Creston, as the video clearly shows, picked up one of the Fernie sticks and refused to give it back resulting in this exchange between Creston assistant coach Simon Zurawski and Fernie’s Chad Scharff

Scharff “ After the game I’m waiting for our stick that we never got back and he says to me “I played Pro” I said oh no way. Congratulations can I shake your hand? He goes “Did you play pro?” I said no I didn’t, he goes I can tell you fat …” You can guess the word.
Pro tip # 5, and it’s on the test …If people don’t just notice by your professional attitude and body language that you played pro, you’re obligated to tell them…
Scharff on the next Creston game, “I’m gonna see if he [Twiggy ?] will sign a Sweden jersey for me so I can take it to my daughter’s school for show and tell as I’ve never met a pro before”.

Its almost Christmas…so Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire…The KING Joey Chestnut won another contest, this time by eating pierogis against three combined eaters, 39-23 in 2 minutes.
