The Ghostriders won four in a row, all on the road, but lost 4-3 to the first place Princeton Posse at home in front of 769 fans on Saturday night.

The four wins got the Riders out of the basement and into third place… but they’ve played more games than the other teams. See the standings below.

After the Princeton game Head Coach Chad Scharff  (check this link) had this to say.

“We learnt a lesson today that you have to start on time! We took 12 mins off in the first period that cost us the game. Our special teams need to improve immensely… the Powerplay has to give you momentum  at the bare minimum and our penalty kill needs to find a way to not give up a goal every game. This will be a focus for us this week! Face-offs are critical and we find ourselves chasing after the puck off a majority of draws.”

“On a positive note I love the compete and attitude to not quit against a really explosive offensive team and the top in our league. I felt like our group responded really well after the first period. We need to score more goals so that will be another focus for us heading into this week of practice.”

Fernie 3 @ Columbia Valley 2 OT

Ben Skarsen scored two, Koa Percival scored the OT game winner and Leo den Besten kept them in a game where they were outshot 47-25 and went 0-4 on the PP, CVR was 1-4

Princeton 4 @ Fernie 3

The Ghostriders woke up in the 2nd period and scored 3 goals in the third Skarsen, Turton and Jones (PP) scored the goals and  Leo den Besten was in net the shots were 34-33 Posse.  As Coach Scharff said a few minutes ago, the power play needs work, the Riders went 1-7 Princeton 1-3 on the aforementioned PP… one goal and the FG gets at least a point.

Notes

“He’s playing like a Captain” PxP guy Dan McSkimming on Ben Skarsen who has scored  4  goals in the last four games and has a team leading 12 G and 18 points with 3 GWG’s… Kellen Hale had the fight of the season for the Ghost when he fought Eastyn Diamond in the second period. They put on a show in that one…but the fans all turned their heads away… as if, sorry BC Hockey they liked it… Koa Percival scored on a breakaway vs the Rockies, been a while since we said scored on a breakaway in this column, see the above comments… Liam Breakenridge could be playing in a week or so… Goalie Kael Svenson is expected in town from Melville this week but former Grand Forks’ player Keenan Holland refused to report so will have to be traded…Montezuma’s revenge ?… Seems like the KI Roster Reports are up to date lately, that didn’t happen all the time last year, bonus for guys who do team programs etc… The score clock has some issues, shouldn’t that be part of the rink infrastructure…did you know it was the Ghostriders who bought that clock several years ago…how soon they forget

Nate Turton It’s been nice to get this guy back into the lineup

Round’ The League the Rockies lost 4-1 to Golden and remain outside of the playoffs…the Ghost play in CVR next Friday… Castlegar lost 6-4 to Spokane and 3-2 in OT in Osoyoos, the Riders are in Castlegar next Saturday…Merritt lost 4-2 to Revy and 7-2 in Kelowna…the Cents’ will be in Fernie on Saturday Nov 22 and Golden is here on December 2nd in what is turning into a battle for third place.
