The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s Fernie Ghostriders are pleased to announce the hiring of Ty Valin as the club’s newest Head Coach & General Manager.

Valin joins the Ghostriders from the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Whitecourt Wolverines, where he served as an assistant coach during the 2020/21 season. The Peace River native has been coaching since 2011, including Three seasons as the Head Coach of his hometown Midget AAA squad as well as with the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology Men’s Hockey Team.

As a player, Valin suited up in the BCHL with the Vernon Vipers and Prince George Spruce Kings and in the AJHL with the Bow Valley Eagles and Grande Prairie Storm. He went on to play collegiately at Grant MacEwan College and NAIT before a brief professional stint with the SPHL’s Jacksonville Barracudas.

“Ty will bring to the team strong leadership and we are looking forward to the upcoming season,” says Ghostriders president Barb Anderson. “Welcome to Fernie, Ty!”
