The Fernie Ghostriders hosted their spring camp over the weekend of April 10-12, bringing in over sixty players hoping to earn a spot on the roster when things ramp up in the fall. It comes at a time where the KIJHL has yet to release their plans for the upcoming season. That decision looms after the announcement of what some are calling a “rebel league,” the now established Western International Junior Hockey League. The current state of the junior hockey landscape is a complicated one. The BCHL split with the sport’s governing body to become an independent league in 2023. It was a move that came from the league’s desire to break away from recruiting restrictions. Changes are common. The Ghostriders have shifted from Junior A to Junior B and back. Not exactly business as usual, but these are the ebbs and flows of hockey in the country.
