Eddie Mountain Bursary recipients

The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League is proud to announce the 12 student-athletes who competed during the 2022-23 season that it has selected to receive league bursaries. Each bursary is valued at $1,000 and will be applied towards post-secondary studies.

Jordan Lario – Golden Rockets – A graduate of Mount Baker Secondary in Cranbrook in 2020, Lario is interested in coaching and carpentry and he would like to play college hockey. He has given back to the community by getting involved in the First Shift Golden program, helping the Food Bank, minor hockey and Base Health and Wellness. Lario plans to attend Sprott Shaw College in Kamloops.
Ethan MacDuff – Fernie Ghostriders – A graduate from Lloydminter Comprehensive High School in 2020, MacDuff is taking a Bachelor of Science to become a dentist, while playing hockey for Southern Maine Huskies in NCAA Division III.

MacDuff has given time to the community helping with the Salvation Army Kettle Campaign, trick or treating with kids, purchased gifts through the Salvation Army for kids in need, assisted an autistic male with his minor hockey practices and more. In the three years MacDuff has been involved with the Ghostriders, president Barb Anderson said he has been a leader both on and off the ice and “a gentleman and a very kind, sincere person.”

Cam Reid – Kimberley Dynamiters – A graduate from Selkirk Secondary School in Kimberley in 2020, Reid will now continue his education at Castleton University in Vermont where he will study Sports and Business Management while playing for the Spartans in NCAA Division III.

He’s helped in the community by assisting elementary school students with Christmas shopping, he’s served tea on Valentine’s Day, hosted a charity golf tournament, and helped with the Terry Fox Run/Running for Reid Fundraiser. Dynamiters Head Coach-GM Derek Stuart added that volunteering is something that Reid takes pride in as he’s helped with shoveling, bag groceries and reading with elementary school students.

“Cam is a very polite, young man,” said Stuart. “He is always very welcoming to the new players that arrive and shows teammates and coaches the utmost respect.”
