Ghostriders October 13 weekend game’s report

The Ghostriders had another disappointing weekend, they lost 8-3 to Grand Forks , 3-2 in overtime to Kelowna and 5-2 to Golden, all the games were at home on Parent’s Weekend.

There were some bright spots

After eight games the Riders (4 points) are in last place but the Rockies (6 points) aren’t doing much better and if GM Chad Scharff plays his cards right and gets a few older veteran players to help guide the rookies they could get out of the basement.

The attendance has been good so far with 672, 688 and 385 on Sunday afternoon, the third game in three days.

A few of the first year players that have stood out a bit are Jaden Piper, Boston Logan and Ethan Watkins

Piper looks like a good all around player, Logan scored a couple of goals and is starting to learn what it takes to play in the league and Watkins has pretty good speed and the potential to develop.

Fernie local Sawyer Samycia who was in and out of the lineup last year as a 17 year old is playing regular minutes now, and fits in … no one out works that guy.

Oh and we had a goat at the game. I’ve seen chickens before but not…well never mind

Anyway, the Next Home game is against Nelson on Friday

So far the Leafs have a 3-4 record and won their last two games, 4-2 in Merritt and 5-4 in a shootout in Princeton. They are the top two teams in the Ohlhausen Division, named after longtime and vastly underpaid and browbeaten  KIJHL President Bill Ohlhausen… who should have been given at least a $5000 handshake when he was ousted

Nelson’s Head Coach is former Rider Coach Barry Wolff   who coached here from 2001-2004 then again in 2012. Nelson’s GM is another former Ghostrider HC, Sheriff  Dale Hladun he was in Fernie in 2013.

Round’ the League

Kimberley played two games, they lost 7-3 to Kelowna but beat Grand Forks 2-1 Saturday . Kelowna for the record was on a three games in three nights road trip also won 2-1 in Creston in a shootout.

Beaver Valley Head Coach and General Manager Terry Jones collected his 1200th Nitehawks win as a Head Coach on Saturday night with a 4-1 win over the Castlegar Rebels!
In all my time covering the KIJHL I’ve never heard a player say they didn’t like playing for Jones…
